Technical Architect

Up to £65,000

Remote with some travel to Northampton


This role is considered a key strategic appointment with the ability to greatly influence the products we build and how we build them. It is currently the most senior purely technical role within the development area. The Technical Architect reports into the Head of Software Development.

The products we build almost entirely use leading-edge Microsoft cloud-based, web technologies. The core team is based in Northampton, but this role can be remote. It would be advantageous if the Technical Architect is able to travel to the Northampton office occasionally (around once a month).

​Must-have Skills

* At least 10 years development experience.

* ​Strong written and verbal communication skills.

* Strong experience with C#, JavaScript and other modern development technologies.

* Good experience with asynchronous processing, message brokers and microservices (event-driven architecture).

* Experience with cloud-native technologies (serverless compute, storage and infrastructure), preferably Microsoft Azure.

* Designing, building, securing and interacting with API’s.

* Strong knowledge of SOLID principles and system and application architecture patterns.

* Solid database experience using SQL and NoSQL databases and ORM’s.

* Good development experience with any contemporary web application framework.

* Strong experience delivering solutions within an Agile environment.

* Knowledge of OWASP and web security best practices.

* Solid experience with source code management, e.g., git.

* Using unit test frameworks (e.g., moq) and knowledge of TDD.

* Experience with system and solution requirements definition (workshops, documents, etc).

* Demonstrable experience interacting with Product Owners and Senior Management.

Desirable Skills

* Experience with DDD and microservices.

* Strong experience with Microsoft cloud technologies (Azure functions, Cosmos, B2C).

* Experience building scalable, reliable, resilient, self-healing processes and services.

* Experience designing data intensive systems.

* Excellent knowledge of security best practices (PKI, DevSecOps, Azure FD/App Gateway).

* Knowledge of Blazor / MAUI.

* Creating or configuring automated build pipelines and experience with any IaC tool.

* Experience with integration testing.

* Exposure to aspects of RCA and SRE.

* Experience building financial systems.
