Software Engineer (Automation)
Salary: £40-65k Dependent Upon Experience
Based in: Farnborough, Hampshire

The purpose of this role is to support software development within the platform and support teams. You will spend some time coding, and coaching others within the team to develop good quality software. You will be working among network engineers, operations staff, support teams, infrastructure engineers as well as software experts.

You will have the opportunity for exposure to many different cloud platforms: VMware, OpenStack, OpenShift, Oracle and Azure Stack

About this role
• Work across one of the largest VMware cloud environments in the world
• Exposure to multi-cloud services such as our award-winning OpenStack platform, Azure Stack and Oracle environments
• Identifying opportunities for automation and improvements to how we deliver and run our core products through Software Engineering
• Close collaboration with the technical operations team for deep technical issues, ultimately ensuring customer satisfaction
• Contributing to the improvement of processes and approaches within the department
• Continuous professional development, through increased product and technical knowledge

Essential Requirements:
• An aptitude to learn new things and try things nobody has done before

Desirable Requirements:
• Exposure to some of the cloud platforms mentioned above
• Practical experience of using Python or PowerShell to enable the automated deployment and maintenance of applications and infrastructure
• Practical experience of Linux and Windows, using Open Source tools to drive automation, such as Ansible, Kubernetes/OpenShift, Terraform, Heat
• An interest in automating anything and everything that could be automated
• Experience coaching or mentoring others to follow best software practices
• Experience developing reusable software modules or REST API microservices
• Git, TDD, Agile methodologies
