DevOps Engineer

Location: Remote or Newcastle upon Tyne

Salary: £40,000 – £55,000

A company that has growth exponentially in the past 2 years is looking for a DevOps Engineer who has hands-on experience building, automating, and operating large-scale systems. This global company can offer excellent progression and learning opportunities whilst getting involved in interesting projects. This past year they have progressed by shutting down physical data centres, growing the security function, using Kubernetes clusters and maturing CI/CD systems.

You will be part of an exceptional team of individuals spread across the globe, working on the most challenging technical problem, helping to build systems, tools, and platforms on which the company's infrastructure and applications are deployed and operated. Responsibilities will include:

Collaborate cross-functionally with the Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Support teams.
Break down large projects and features into independently workable/shippable milestones and stories.
Contribute to the l design and implementation of the infrastructure – both on-premises and in AWS.
Contribute readable, testable, maintainable & documented code when making changes to our infrastructure through IaC systems like Terraform, or AWS CloudFormation.
Ensure systems relied upon by both external customers and internal teams are fault-tolerant and highly available

Experience with the following is required:

Managed serverless workloads with AWS Lambda, API Gateways, DynamoDB & SQS/SNS topics & queues.
Configuration management using tools like Terraform, Ansible and Puppet.
Writing efficient, understandable & maintainable Infrastructure as Code.
Troubleshooting full-stack production systems (including network, storage, compute layers, and service dependencies such as DNS, DB, etc.).
Continuous integration and delivery platforms such as Jenkins, Github Actions, or Bitbucket Pipelines.
Understanding of microservices, micro front ends and distributed architecture.
Driven to seek out and understand not just the 'what' of what they are building, but also the reason why they are building it.
