Job Description

My client is looking for a Systems Engineer to step into their team. They are a premier quantitative investment firm specializing in algorithmic trading across global financial markets. Their team, comprised of researchers, engineers, and finance professionals, leverages advanced statistical models to analyze data and identify predictive signals, aiming for exceptional investment returns. Their investment teams focuses on distinct strategies, utilizing our proprietary, cutting-edge technology and data platform to enhance their alpha research.

The Systems Engineer will join my clients great Systems Infrastructure team, overseeing all technological aspects from networking to servers and application services, and reporting directly to the Head of Infrastructure. The infrastructure employs modern technologies, emphasizing robust, reusable components and strategic automation. As part of a "flat" team, every member is involved in the design, implementation, operation, and support of our environment.

Initially, the Systems Engineer will focus on day-to-day system administration and end-user support, with opportunities to expand into broader infrastructure projects over time, ultimately leading significant initiatives independently. The ideal candidate will exhibit technical expertise in familiar areas and possess the ability to systematically address new challenges. While new team members will receive support and mentorship, they are also expected to conduct independent research and propose solutions and process improvements.

This in-office position is based in our Central London office and includes responsibilities such as daily in-person support and workstation management. The role may also require occasional regional travel.

What the role entails:

A large, Linux-centric, multi-tenant public cloud environment
Configuration management tools like Ansible and infrastructure management tools like Terraform
Extensive use of cloud-managed services (DBaaS, IaaS, etc.) to reduce maintenance work
Diverse databases, including relational, columnar, and NoSQL databases
Various user-facing systems (Windows, Macs, Linux endpoints, both physical and virtual)
A SaaS-heavy corporate environment prioritizing flexibility and agility over traditional on-premise technologies
Cloud-native video-conferencing and phone systems
Various storage technologies, including object storage, file sharing systems, and cloud platforms like SharePointDesired Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

Undergraduate degree in CS, EE, or related field
1-5 years of professional experience in a technology-related field
Excellent communication skills
Ability to manage projects independently
Quick learning capability for new platforms and technologies
Server administration (Windows and/or Linux)
Scripting/programming (PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc.)
Mobile device management (MDM/MAM)
Videoconference and phone systems
Desktop support across multiple operating systems (Windows, Mac, and Linux)
High-touch end-user support
Windows and Active Directory administration
Email system administration and support
Security and compliance controls (endpoint security, firewalls, etc.)
Public cloud experience (particularly AWS)
Database administration
