Job Description

As a System Architect at Pavers, you will be responsible for the architecture, design and planning of systems to meet our business goals. With a strong technical acumen that embraces emerging technology, you will have the opportunity to be at the heart of a dynamic omnichannel retail business and shaping how technology can benefit our customers and your colleagues.

Pavers are currently embarking on a System Modernisation project which will bring benefits to every business area.  This is a senior, and influential role where you can make a real impact, working on complex systems to drive the organisation forward.

You will be influencing, designing, or selecting all aspects of the technology we need to deliver the business systems that meet the business needs and are secure, stable and performant. The System Architect role is central to defining of, and adherence to, Pavers technology strategy and standards. You will be responsible from impact assessing business needs, use design concepts to develop system that provide the basis for systems construction and testing.

You will work with colleagues across the business, and you will work collaboratively with our multi-discipline product teams of dedicated or shared roles including Product Managers, Developers and Quality Assurance Analysts. This role will report to the Head of IT Change.

Key responsibilities:

Architect, design and plan solutions using industry best practice

Complete initial impact assessments of system change requests

Define solution designs and roadmaps that balance functional and non-functional requirements to meet business goals and needs

Design system components using appropriate modelling techniques following agreed architectures, design standards, patterns, and methodology

Contribute and ensure adherence to Pavers technology strategy

Adopts and adapts system design methods, tools, and techniques. Contributes to development of system architecture and design standards

Resolve incidents that have not been seen before and initiate change to ensure that issues can be easily dealt with in future

Work with data compliance teams to ensure that all technology solutions meet security and regulatory compliance requirements, implementing security measures to protect our data and systems

Evaluate new tools and techniques to be able to understand their value and impact

Lead group design discussions within area of expertise and be able to present with authority to a variety of audiences

Be a lead technical and design authority for the IT Team

Keep abreast of emerging technologies and trends and propose innovative solutions that enhance efficiency and competitiveness

Support team members and bring on more junior employees through mentoring and coaching

Ideal candidate:

Ability to translate multiple information sources and requirements into actionable solutions

Excellent communication and technical leadership skills, with the ability to be hands on in certain scenarios

Embraces agile and collaborative ways of working to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment

Strategic thinker with the ability to align technology solutions with business goals

Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and performance

Previous software development experience developing complex solutions

Advanced knowledge of T-SQL (SQL Server / MySQL)

Undergraduate Degree or technical qualification in IT

Certification in Architecture methodologies, for example TOGAF

Certification in design techniques, for example BCS Practitioner Certificate in Systems Design Techniques
