A fantastic opportunity has come up for an experienced engineer to work as part of a global Virtualisation team. The ideal person will have strong inter-personal and communication skills. You will be comfortable working in a culturally diverse and geographically dispersed working environment and be able to interact positively and proactively with your peers and the leadership team. You will have strong problem-solving skills and be self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and deliver to given SLAs. The successful candidate will act as an SME and technical lead in the design, maintenance, and support of the global virtualization estate (VMware & Hyper-V), storage, compute systems and services. Your primary focus will be to manage the on-premise estate, however over time this focus will switch towards Cloud solutions, as we are currently undergoing a Cloud programme of work.
Systems Engineering experience and Infrastructure
BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience requiredKey Responsibilities
Ability to design complex technical solutions and provide input into projects and technical documents.
Technical experience managing enterprise virtualization solutions e.g. vCenter & Host upgrades from one version to another.
Management, support & deployment of the VMware Estate – vCenter's, Hosts & VM's.
Configuration, installation, and reconfiguration of enterprise Server/Storage systems.
Experience of automating tasks & config using tools such as Ansible & Terraform.
Technical Lead, providing training & mentoring to other team members.
Hardware Break/Fix & Refresh – lifecycle management
Part of team on-call rota.
Ability to travel UK wide if required. (Co-Lo located in Slough)Key Skills
VMware vSphere 6.7 – vCenter, PSC, Site Recovery Manager, vSphere Distributed Switch
Compute Systems (e.g. Dell FX2 Chassis & Blade, PowerEdge)
Storage Systems (e.g. HPE Nimble SAN & Dell ME/MD)
Replication Services – Nimble replication & vSphere Replication
Ansible – Automation of config management
Experience of monitoring tools such as Nagios, Dell OpenManage, Grafana & Prometheus.
Infoblox DNS/DHCP Appliances
Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP and networking technologies.Desirable Skills
VMware certification such as VCP, VCAP etc
Exposure to vSAN & vRealize (vRA & vRO)
Experience of Data Centre/Co-Lo migrations
Any scripting/automation/programming languages, knowledge and understanding of SDLCWomen in technology:
