Title: Data Scientist
Location: Newcastle / Remote
Salary: £43,000 – £50,000

About the role
The successful data scientist plays a multifaceted role in leveraging statistical, mathematical, and predictive modeling techniques to address pressing business and financial challenges. Through exploratory data analysis, they identify suitable machine learning algorithms and contribute to data preparation and feature engineering processes. Collaborating with various stakeholders, they communicate complex findings effectively, driving actionable insights and informing decision-making within the NHS and wider healthcare community. Moreover, they actively participate in projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality data products while adhering to ethical standards and regulatory principles, thus contributing to organisational improvements and risk management efforts.
Key Responsibilities
* Applying data science and advanced analytics techniques to answer business questions
* Using statistical programming and data visualisation software
* Using version control such as GitHub or GitLab
* Storytelling and explaining complex and contentious subject matter.
* Sharing and promoting best practice and providing data science and analytical expertise across the business
Skills & Experience
* Experience utilising version control systems like GitHub or GitLab
* Exceptional storytelling abilities to communicate complex and contentious subjects effectively
* Aptitude for sharing best practices and providing data science expertise across the organisation
* Proficiency in applying data science and advanced analytics techniques to address business inquiries
* Strong command of statistical programming and data visualisation software such as R, SQL, and Python
* Ability to conduct exploratory data analysis and select appropriate machine learning algorithms
* Skilled in producing and presenting reports, including written advice for decision-makers
* Capability to communicate complex findings both orally and visually to drive actionable outcomes
* Proven ability to analyse, interpret, and resolve highly complex statistical or information problems
* Proficiency in planning, scheduling, and coordinating work activities to meet objectives and deadlines
* Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to ethical data usage principles
* Strong interpersonal skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders
* Capacity to represent the organisation at external meetings and contribute to the development of risk management frameworks
* Adherence to organisational policies, procedures, and protocols, and promotion of a culture of diversity, inclusion, and safety
