A global powerhouse within the Social Media industry are looking for an Taxonomist to join their team remotely on an initial 11 month contract and help evolve the way the company organises and shows products for people and businesses.
The successful candidate will be self-directed, working in a cross-functional product team to help the team scope out taxonomy requirements, prioritise work, and then deliver against these requirements. They will be working to extend an existing taxonomy, and will collaborate with other taxonomists who work in this area.
The candidate must be able to thrive in a flat, fast-moving, somewhat ambiguous environment that relies on lightweight processes to deliver huge impact.
The successful candidate will help to refine a consumer interest taxonomy to improve the advertising experience on their platform for people and businesses.
Extend our existing taxonomy to cover new areas of products and services. Work with the cross-functional product team to identify which areas to prioritise, then build out concepts and categories in these areas.
Improve how this taxonomy is localised, collaborating with the cross-functional and taxonomy teams to understand and prioritise this work.
Work with our existing taxonomy team to help create standards for how the taxonomy will be maintained and governed throughout its lifecycle.
Develop and apply in-depth expertise for how our customers perceive and think about products, their classification and attributes in order to search for them. This may include researching and modeling concept or product categories and attribute nuances across different locales.
Work closely with engineers to build machine learning and other classification models, prioritising and managing projects and deliverables effectively while adapting to changing business needs, processes and requirements.
Partner with PMs, engineers, product designers, researchers, and content strategists to oversee the user experience of a product from conception until launch (and beyond).SKILLS REQUIRED
3+ years of experience developing and managing product, SEO/SEM, Ad Tech and/or advertising taxonomies. Alternatively 1.5+ years of experience plus 1.5 years of related graduate-level education (such as working toward a Master's degree in Library or Information Science).
Experience in building and shipping taxonomies and similar features for e-commerce, Advertising technology or SEM/SEO.
Experience using taxonomy management systems to maintain categories, attributes, and other metadata.
Proven experience presenting taxonomy and metadata information to technical and non-technical audiences.
Proven experience working on projects and delivering in customer-focused, cross-functional teams.
Experience partnering with data science, machine learning and engineering teams.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in Library Science or Information Management
3+ years experience developing and managing product taxonomies for business (SEO/Ad Tech/Advertising)
3+ years of information architecture experience
Metadata design experience
Product/UX content strategy experience
Experience with social products
