Primary Purpose of Role
The team's primary objectives are to ensure the availability, effectiveness and supportability of the Central Engineering Environments as well as the continuous improvement and evolution of the environment, with an aim to increase the efficiency of Engineers across the UK.
This role will involve understanding the needs of the UK Hardware (HW) Engineering function and owning the key practices, applications and technologies to deploy and support the solutions for those needs. The nature of the work demands strong commitment to delivery, continuous improvement and a willingness to take ownership for providing an effective service to Thales businesses around the UK.
Support includes but is not limited to:
Setup and configuration.
User and license management.
Providing training, including the processes and practices.
Resolving incidents associated with the Engineering Environment.
Develop and deploy smart and innovative engineering environments and supporting services enabling efficient and effective engineering activities in line with business line product development needs
Work with the UK Businesses, UK HW SET's and the UK Workbench Architects to define engineering applications solutions
In conjunction with UK HW Engineering, establish HW engineering priorities and champion within COES
Work with the rest of the UK E2 Team and Information Services (IS) to deploy and support the solutions
Support in the identification and deployment of new applications (including convergence of existing) in order to improve engineering efficiency, in alignment with Thales Corporate Standards
Deploy application evolutions focusing on centralisation, version alignment across the UK and in Line with Thales Group Workbench road maps
Support Workbench Architects reporting on E2 HW activities, progress & problems at HW Ops. Reviews
Experience & Skills
Experience of deploying and maintaining Engineering tools
Experience of applications and infrastructure automation / orchestration, focusing on increasing engineering efficiency
Good understanding of Windows and Linux system administration
Good Understanding of external and on premise cloud technology
Excellent communicator with experience in delivery of change in behaviour, culture, practices and applications across established development teams
Good problem solving skills with the ability to shape solutions out of complexity
Customer oriented with experience of working in a service delivery function
Experience of working in a military development environment is desirable but not essential
Experience of Agile ways of working (e.g. Scrum) is desirable but not essential
In addition, the role requires the job holder to have knowledge/experience in at least some of the following applications and practices
Hardware Engineering methodologies and practices, in particular Thales Hardware Workbenches
Configuration and change management
Mechanical Design and, or one of, the following: Electronics, Electrical or FPGA Design
Experience with programming languages such as Python, C/C++, C#, Java
Experience with the use or administration of some of the following applications:
PTC Applications (e.g. Creo, Windchill, PDMlink)
Model Based Design applications (Anark, Capvidia)
Thales Hardware Workbenches, ATDM, ATGM, ATIM FPGA & Watt
PCB Design and Analysis Applications (e.g. Cadence Allegro, ADS Keysight, HFSS Ansoft)
Mechanical Analysis Applications
Atlassian Applications (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket)
IBM Rational Applications (e.g. DOORS, Rhapsody, ClearCase, ClearQuest)
Environment Automation and Virtualisation Applications (e.g. VMWare, Puppet)
SYS Design Applications (e.g. Capella, SYS Architect)
You must be Security Clearable for this role. This role is to start asap and will pay £40-50k P/A plus benefits
