Senior Ruby on Rails Developer – Green Tech

Full Time IT Job Pro UK

Green-Tech Ruby on Rails Developer – Remote
Salary: £60,000 – £75,000
Location: Fully remote (UK based)

Did you know that over a third of all food produced and purchased globally ends up rotting away? Giving off methane as it does so.

In the UK, the average family spends 800 quid a year on food that we won’t bother eating – globally it’s something along the lines of £(phone number removed) worth of waste.

If you weighed it all, that’s about 1.3 billion tonnes.

I reckon you could feed quite a few people with that, don’t you?

The more you look into it, the more you realise that food waste – both globally and in the UK – is a massive problem.

Thankfully, it’s not all doom and gloom though…

Over 81% of us would be quite happy to accept food from a neighbour, and there’s a start-up that are using that figure to get more people involved in sharing food that would otherwise go to waste.

They’re tackling commercial food waste too, working with businesses and suppliers across the food and beverage supply chain to help them operate more sustainably and divert unsold food back into the community.

They've grown organically over the last 7 years, and now have over 5 million users and 60,000 volunteers. That’s 5 million people all doing their bit to remove food waste from the equation, and they can do it all with a few clicks on their phone!

They’ve got big plans and new features in the works that’ll make it even easier for their users to make a difference, but at the moment it’s a small team of 15, and they’ve realised they need to grow to continue scaling.

That’s what they need you. A senior Ruby on Rails dev who wants to make a difference, build a team around them and help advance those individuals skills and career and would quite fancy being part of something awesome.

They’re a friendly bunch, and as you can imagine everyone in the team is passionate about sustainability, so if you’re someone that really cares about this stuff, you’ll be right at home, literally – they’re a remote first company.

If you’ve got a great grasp of Ruby on Rails, understand what DevOps is and know the value it can add, and have a knack for solving tricky problems that often present themselves in weird and unexpected ways, then you’re just what they need.

They use things like AWS with S3, ECR, ELB, Cloudwatch and also use Docker, Travis CI for their CICD, lots of google maps integration and Redis, among other things. So any experience with those or similar tools will enable you to settle in quickly.

Fancy building something that could get rid of food waste for good?

There’s plenty more to talk about, so send over your CV.
