We are supporting a leading UK university with the implementation of a Current Research Information System (CRIS) and are seeking an experienced PURE SME to provide hands-on system expertise and delivery support.

This is a greenfield implementation of PURE (Elsevier), aimed at creating a single, authoritative repository for research data including outputs, archives, and researcher information, in preparation for future REF submissions (2028/29).

The role:

Title: Subject Matter Expert

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Length: 3 – 6 months

IR35: Outside

Rate: TBC

Location: Remote (Occasional days on site desirable but not essential)

You will act as a PURE (Elsevier) Subject Matter Expert, supporting an established delivery team that already includes Programme Management and Business Analysis capability. The focus of this role is deep system knowledge and practical delivery support.

Key responsibilities include:

Providing hands-on expertise across PURE configuration and workflows
Supporting data migration and data loading activities (staff, student, research outputs, archives)
Advising on out-of-the-box vs bespoke configuration decisions
Supporting the programme through UAT preparation and execution
Acting as a trusted advisor to the university delivery team, helping to unblock issues and accelerate progress
Working closely with internal stakeholders across research, IT, and programme delivery

Required Experience

Proven experience working with PURE CRIS (essential)
Strong understanding of research information systems within Higher Education
Experience supporting system configuration, workflows, and data migration
Familiarity with REF requirements and research reporting is highly desirable
