The Team:

Enterprise Integration Services (EIS) are part of HMRCs Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO) group and manage HMRC’s core integration / middleware services, dealing with over a billion transactions every year and connecting hundreds of HMRC services.

We provide fundamental platforms for delivering Application Programming Interface (API) access to HMRC systems and provide artefacts and support for API consumer software to seamlessly integrate with HMRC digital services.

We use modern open-source products and work in an Agile way to deliver flexible, cost effective integration solutions.

Job description

As the successful candidate, you will play a leading role in a scrum team, using Agile methods to build services that have a positive impact upon our users.

You will support all elements of development, with a relentless focus on quality and usability. You will work closely with Architects, Product Owners and others to deliver high quality solutions, using recognised standard methods and best practice.

As a Senior Developer in EIS, you will be flexible, deeply skilled in at least one programming language and focused on producing excellent quality code. You will make good technical decisions that provide secure solutions to business challenges.

You will be a credible, influential and encouraging team-player, with a good understanding of and background in system integration. You will also be a skilled team leader, motivator and confident communicator, with good interpersonal skills and a proven dedication to continuous improvement in self and others.

This role is ideal for someone looking for a challenge – this is an exciting opportunity, suited to someone who is proactive and hardworking, has recent experience in a similar role and enjoys working in a dynamic environment.

Specific responsibilities will include:

Ensuring services are robust, scalable and secure, with all appropriate security controls embedded and designed to specification;

Writing clean, secure and well-tested code to specification;

Building a culture of continuous service improvement, ensuring that key services “owned” by your team are regularly analysed, maintained and improved;

Leading root cause analysis of system issues;

Providing good solutions to business challenges;

Actively participating in the Developer Guild;

Following and helping to improve best practice guidelines; and

Championing and mentoring colleagues.

Technical Skills:

Java 8+;

Platforms such as Linux, Windows, Cloud, etc.;

GIT;

Scala;

Microservice Architecture and Development;

Middleware/messaging products and protocols;

Docker/Kubernetes;

XML/XSD/XSLT;

REST and API development;

Apache Camel; and

Java Spring framework.

Essential Criteria:

Software and system design and development;

Writing clean, secure and well-tested code to specification;

Unit testing;

Continuous improvement in software development;

Mentoring and coaching others;

Agile methodology and principles; and

Technical skills listed below.

Desirable Criteria:
