The Digital Research & Design Team Leader will play a key role in supporting the Head of Digital Services in leading the digital transformation within the large public sector client.
The Digital Research & Design Team Leader is responsible for managing a team of User Researchers, User Experience Designers, Interaction Designers and Service Designers, driving best practice and quality across the digital transformation agenda.
This is an exciting opportunity to help us lead, drive and deliver significant change across two new and challenging transformation programmes.
People management – staff management of user researchers, interaction, service and UX designers (a mix of permanent and contract staff).
Resource allocation – plan and agree how team members will be allocated out to projects in line with project needs and based on project phase. Manage any additional resource needs (eg bringing in contractors as required). Scope work as required.
Develop the team to embed user research and design best practice including ensuring research and design is appropriately documented, audit trails of decisions made are maintained and that there is adherence to GDPR and other relevant legislation.
Ensure and agile, iterative and user-oriented design, using a range of low fidelity and high fidelity mediums.
Ensure research and design is inclusive of users with accessibility needs, or who are digitally excluded.
Support the Head of Digital Programmes in embedding a user centred digital culture and communicating, sharing and involving stakeholders in those ways of working.
Ensure adherence to GDS and TCOP standards and manage the team's input into the GDS service assessments.
Ensure the R&D team has documented and consistent ways of working and that these are applied to the projects the teams are allocated to.
Experience – essential
Significant experience of leading digital research and design across the spectrum of disciplines (User Research, User Experience, Interaction Design, Service Design).
Hands-on experience in one or more of the above disciplines.
Line management experience.
An understanding of TCOP/GDS principles and experience of the GDS service assessment process.
Experience of delivering research and design with and for users with accessibility needs.
Experience of taking products through GDS service standard assessments.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to understand, empathise with, negotiate and influence individuals and groups.
Experience of using a range of tools and methodologies to design complex, inter-dependent and inter-related services that are end-to-end' and front-to-back'.
Experience solving design and research challenges through collaboration and user participation.
Experience introducing best practice into teams or organisations, incuding engaging with stakeholders of all levels of seniority
Previous experience within government services.
Experience – desirable
* Experience of working on new, complex projects/programmes of work
* Experience of working within a complex, ideally regulatory, organisation
* Web development skills (eg html, CSS, Php or Drupal)
Please note that due to remote-working, it is a requirement that the candidate must have their own laptop/desktop that can be used until office working resumes.
It is preferred for candidates to have existing DBS clearance and immediate availability, due to the urgency of the requirement
