Consulting Manager Professional Services Enterprise Asset Management

Position Title: Professional Consulting Manager

Reports To: Operations Director

Remuneration: £90,504+

Main Purpose:

Responsible for the overall management of the Professional Consulting Team and for the professional services delivery into client projects.

Specific Responsibilities:


Manage the budget process and associated administration to maintain Services costs within budgeted limits and ensure target profitability on delivered services is met and contributes to the overall company budget.

Manage the profitability of individual projects, working with project managers and account execs to ensure change is adequately recognised and charged, and that delivered margins meet the target margins of the project with specific management of time and cost variances

Ensure the financial success of Professional Consulting by planning deliveries to meet required timings to maintain a revenue profile to matches that of cost.

Deliver effective financial performance reporting (including YTD performance, project performance and forecasts for financial periods).

Manage the revenue and billing streams with clients and Project Managers to ensure a well-managed cash flow.

Services Delivery Management

Work with Technical and Sales representatives to ensure the delivery methodology is relevant and contemporaneous and meets the needs of our clients and the market for controlled yet agile delivery.

Plan and efficiently utilise the company systems and infrastructure required to deliver projects (both internal and external) whilst minimising the required expenditure on systems, services and hardware.

Set standards, maintain and control the quality of the Professional Services delivery to meet client technical and timeliness needs.

Manage and define the short- and medium-term resource allocations to different client and internal projects so that contentions are resolved, and client expectations are managed and set.

Utilise offshore and contractor resource effectively, working with our offshore office to garner resources as required, and using UK contractor resources at effective cost rates through good pre-planning of work.

Measure and manage staff utilisation levels to optimise project delivery and profitability, understand the impact of utilisation on commercial returns and balancing chargeable and non-chargeable work deliberately and actively.

Capability Management

Understand and drive the adoption of internal systems and infrastructure ensuring efficient usage, whilst mitigated risks associated with access to systems.

Ensure the skills of Professional Services staff and recruitment candidates are clearly understood, and that the skills development plans provide a route for Continual Professional Development aligned to the emerging needs for successful project delivery.

Recruit new skills and talent as required to augment the existing talent pool, managing costs and skills carefully to ensure such changes maintain harmony with the existing staff.

Manage all training and development within a set budget and matching forecast needs of products, projects and support.

Customer Relations

Work at C-level with our clients to establish clear relationships and escalations. Ensure our clients feel they receive the attention and assistance that they deserve.

Be an advocate on behalf of the customer, ensuring they are foremost in the minds of support, consultants and project managers when delivering services to them.

Measure and monitor customer satisfaction levels by direct communication with our clients, and by formal project performance reviews during and post project.


Contribute to and be an advocate for the IT and Information security policies and controls used to protect our own and our clients’ systems and data.

Passionately promote our information security capabilities and policies to ensure it is a part of our staff ethos and clear to our clients.

Measure our adherence to security policies within our project deliverables, ensuring risk and poor practice are identified and mitigated.


Collaborate with and plan resource usage with support to ensure 3rd line escalations are successfully managed through the incident and delivery process within the SLAs of our service contracts.

Ensure that the handover processes to and from Support are effective and clear, and that clients receive excellent service for system incidents, warranty and go-live processes.

Manage the resourcing of escalated tickets within the overall resource plan to ensure SLAs are met and minor works are delivered in a timely manner.

Work in collaboration with Support to ensure our clients receive exemplary service and support, and account for client satisfaction with Support in this context.

Quality and Testing

In collaboration with Technical Services, contribute to the measurement and auditing of delivery quality ensuring tangible measures are available to demonstrate delivery quality, both at a project level and sales collateral level.

Drive right-first-time development, ensuring rework is tracked, measured and corrections applied to stop future repeated occurrences.

Minimise rework, understanding clearly, it’s impact on profitability and scheduling.

Work with Technical Services to ensure testing strategies and quality initiatives are bound into the Project delivery and technical deployment methods, ensuring such strategies support a system lifecycle from development through BAU support.

Sales and Marketing

Provide input and content to sales collateral to meet the sales campaign needs of the Sales department, working in collaboration with the Sales Manager to ensure such collateral aligns to account plan and marketing direction.

Provide assistance as required through scheduling resources to assist in pre-sales activities such as data preparation, demonstrations, customer meetings and sales plays.

Track and collaborate with Sales to ensure the forecast and demand of new work is clearly understood and managed within the overall context of the services delivery programme.

Support the sales team with appropriate resources for technical and commercial responses for bids, tenders, and quotations.

Create and support marketing collateral to support sales plays and sales campaigns.

Skills & Personal Qualities – Required:

Demonstrable track record in managing and motivating a diverse professional services organisation.

Experienced consulting and service delivery within Operations, Engineering or Technology sectors.

Strong commercial perspective, business awareness and accurate numeracy skills.

Effective communication and inter-personal skills, with the ability to influence peers and exec-level staff.

Leadership skills.

Well organised, methodical, persuasive, diplomatic, proactive, and able to take initiative.

Able to multi-task and prioritise work.
