Business Analyst – main purpose of the role

Responsible for analysing, recommending and defining business requirements to implement new business models and enhance existing processes, products and services

Key Accountabilities

Engages with business partners to understand their objectives, operation and customer.

Analyses the structure of a business to determine how it operates and determine its objectives.

Acts as the conduit between business groups and IT to ensure alignment to WH WHSmith strategic goal and change programmes.

Assesses approved Project Requests conducting analysis and design of new requirements documenting the 'as is’ and the 'to be’ process.

Drives adoption of the Business Analysis processes within the Portfolio Office Framework Ensures all required artefacts are delivered.

Main responsibilities

Defines project delivery schedule with IT PM and Business Partners.

Analyses business processes, products, services and IT solutions, recommending new models and areas to improve in line with the Project objectives and scope.

Identifies opportunities to improve the current business model designing potential solutions to any problems identified during the research phase.

Prepares and delivers business / technology change proposals to Stakeholders, Project Manager with comprehensive risk and impact assessment.

Builds and maintains relationships with internal IT Teams and 3rd party suppliers delivery teams to deliver projects and ensures solutions meet the requirements.

Oversees implementation of approved process improvements across the business group and IT.

Develops end-to-end test cases to deliver robust applications and services.

Carries out training sessions, workshops and quality checks to guide relevant teams.

Creates and maintains RAID logs identifying risks / issues and risk management options.

Utilises Company best practices and methodologies across business engagement, project management and development.

Experience and Knowledge

The ideal candidate will have a proven Business Analysis background.

Excellent understanding of IT Processes and associated skills. Ideally having worked with both Agile and Waterfall development methodologies.

Proven experience of managing a multi project portfolio.

Excellent communicator at all levels and the ability to influence at a senior level.

Key attributes – self-motivated / self-starter, high energy, ability to seek out information, ability to quickly build networks.

Ideally previous experience in Retail, Logistics, FMCG, Manufacturing or CPG.


Experience in influencing and leading the needs and perspectives of a team and all stakeholders, recognising the contributions of others by providing regular feedback, supporting people to develop and grow and enabling the overall enjoyment of work.

Excellent written and spoken skills with experience of reporting at executive level.

Minimum 4 years of experience in a Business Analysis Role.

Ideally worked in retail environment for 3yrs (+)
