Job Purpose:

The Business Analyst is a key component of the interface between business stakeholders and the Berkeley Group IT department for scope definition across all IT projects. This role works closely with the business to understand the operating environment, challenges, risks and opportunities and combines this business understanding with technical knowledge from both a Berkeley Group system and an industry perspective to identify, shape and promote IT solutions that create clear business value. The role must drive and negotiate the optimum balance between complexity, timescale and benefit across project scope and across the diverse business stakeholder landscape.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Requirements Management

* Elicit and refine requirements from the business and key stakeholders using techniques appropriate to the project, stakeholders and environment (e.g. workshop, interview, focus group, questionnaire, document analysis, shadowing etc.)

* Identify requirements stakeholders may not have considered that enable end to end solutions that bring increased business value (e.g. non-functional requirements, reporting requirements, additional processes, incremental efficiencies etc.)

* Evaluate information gathered and create an impact assessment of project requirements across existing business process / systems/user groups

* Consultancy and creation of high level scope documentation to enable initial assessment and business case of potential future projects

Relationship Management

* Identify and agree key stakeholders for each project / work package

* Manage all stakeholder groups across items relating to BA activity including status updates, escalation, and dispute resolution

Business improvement

* Challenge business requirements and identify and negotiate alternate outcomes where there is business benefit in doing so, Increased scope or size of benefits, Ease of benefits realisation, Standardisation cross companies to achieve operational efficiencies, Lower unit cost of development, Reduced risk

* Create measurable improvements in the operation of the BA team, BRM team and wider IT function, Create re-usable deliverables and re-use capability to drive speed, efficiency and quality

Delivery management

* Identify co-ordinate and manage project activities relating to the BA role

* Own the planning and management for all items relating to BA role deliverables for a project (e.g. requirements capture approach, scope, plan, detailed activity planning)

* Shape the wider project plan (owned by the nominated project manager) to accurately include all BA related activity and project deliverables

* Lead in scope definition for projects, drive discussions, negotiations and agreements regarding final project scope

End to end delivery

* Ensure technical design and test teams have a full understanding of business requirements

* Provide consultancy into technical design teams as appropriate (e.g. recommended workflow, recommended usability, screen layouts etc.)

* Review and signoff technical designs against requirements and own requirements traceability

* Aware of industry trends / developments (both construction and IT) and able to deploy this knowledge to improve IT solutions

* Escalate issues in good time to enable senior management sufficient opportunity to assist with resolution as appropriate

Technical Competencies:

* Excellent stakeholder management skills with ability to forge strong business partnerships

* Strong negotiation skills across demanding stakeholders including customer, internal and supplier

* Robust understanding of technical detail with ability to translate successfully between business language and technical domains

* Excellent analytical skills including requirements analysis, complex data analysis, business process analysis and solution impact analysis, Accurate and high-quality documentation

* Experience of IT business analysis in similar roles for enterprise scale projects

* Successful delivery of software development projects working across a complex supply base of in house and third-party providers
